CEO Recognized for Excellence in Hospital Administration and Leadership

OCEANSIDE, CA — Healthcare leaders from throughout San Diego County joined in honoring Tri-City Medical Center’s CEO Larry B. Anderson as the recipient of the 2011 Healthcare Champion Award for Hospital Administration and Leadership Thursday night at the San Diego Business Journal’s annual event. Anderson was recognized for his vision and leadership in overseeing the significant financial and organizational turn-around at Tri-City Medical Center over the past two years. “Larry B. Anderson has succeeded in assembling an impressive executive team of accomplished experts and developed breakthrough strategies to improve patient care and hospital management,” said Craig Lindholm, Chair of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation board of directors. “His dedication was instrumental in returning Tri-City Medical Center to its position as North County’s premier healthcare center and a nationally recognized healthcare leader.”

As Tri-City Medical Center marks 50 years of service to the residents of Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista, its financial performance this year has given it another reason to celebrate. The 397-bed facility posted a $16.1 million profit for the year ended June 30, which is $27 million better than its 2009-2010 loss of close to $11 million.

Hallmarks of Tri-City’s renaissance have included the launching of two centers of excellence: the Cardiovascular Health Institute in December 2010 and the Orthopaedic and Spine Institute in March 2011. In August the hospital also acquired the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Si HD Robotic Surgical System, the most advanced equipment available for complex surgeries.

The new Tri-City Laser and Aesthetic Center adjacent the hospital’s Wellness Center in Carlsbad recently became the first hospital facility to be state-certified for laser and aesthetics. Tri-City is also undergoing its first major construction project in nearly 20 years and broke ground on Friday for a 57,476-square-foot medical office building on the hospital’s campus. Notably, Tri-City’s resurgence has also been successful in attracting leading physicians to join its ranks.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to congratulate Larry B. Anderson for achieving this great honor,” said RoseMarie Reno, chairperson of the Tri-City Healthcare District board.
