Tri-City to Take Lead at La Costa Tennis Tournament
Highlighting its role as a healthcare leader, Tri-City Medical Center will host several exciting and interactive activities at the Mercury Insurance Open Presented by Tri-City Medical Center which runs Saturday, July 30 through Sunday, August 7 at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
The chance "test drive" Tri-City's new dual-console da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System tops the activity list.
The most advanced of its kind in San Diego County, the da Vinci Robotic dual-control Si with Simulator Surgical System helps surgeons perform precise but minimally invasive procedures. The result is smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery times that enable patients to get back to their lives quickly.
Tennis fans can see the system in action and take over its controls Wednesday, August 3 through Friday, August 5 at Tri-City's booth in the sponsor pavilion at the women’s professional tennis tournament.
A Tri-City "Catch-n-Stretch" promotion will teach fans how to “Get the Knots Out,” help prevent and heal sports injuries, and use simple exercises to fight off cancer.
Certified trainers from the award-winning Tri-City Wellness Center in Carlsbad will lead tennis fans in on-court demonstrations and be available at the Tri-City booth for more information and one-on-one demos throughout the tournament, as part of the promotion. Tri-City will also offer physical therapy advice, blood pressure checks and other health screenings during the tournament.
Tri-City Medical Center is presenting the Mercury Insurance Open. A Premier 700 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event offering $721,000 in prize money, it will feature a 56-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw in 2011. The women’s professional tennis event returned to the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad in 2010 after a two-year hiatus. Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova won the singles title last summer when she defeated Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the final. The tournament will be televised on the Tennis Channel and ESPN 2.
