CEO Larry B. Anderson Recognized for Leadership
One of 300 leaders nationwide cited for dedication
Larry B. Anderson, chief executive officer at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif., has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of "300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know" nationwide. The list recognizes "men and women who have shown admirable dedication to the improvement of healthcare delivery" and "demonstrated great promise and skill to the American healthcare landscape."
Mr. Anderson joined Tri-City Medical Center in 2009 and, within two years, returned the hospital to financial stability and established it as a leader in San Diego County for robotic and minimally invasive surgery. The 397-bed hospital has an annual budget of $400 million and employs more than 2,000 people. During his tenure, Mr. Anderson refinanced Tri-City’s high-interest rate auction securities, a move that saved the hospital millions of dollars and helped it post a $16.2 million profit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011. He also won a reprieve from state-mandated seismic compliance until 2030.
Most recently, under Anderson’s leadership, Tri-City Medical Center was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the 100 Greatest Places to Work in Healthcare (nationally) and as the fifth-best cardiac hospital nationwide in reducing 30-day readmission rates for patients suffering heart attacks.2
In recognition of his role in overseeing the remarkable financial and organizational turnaround at Tri-City Medical Center, Mr. Anderson was named the recipient of the 2011 Healthcare Champion Award for Hospital Administration and Leadership by the San Diego Business Journal and named Businessperson of the Year in 2012 by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Anderson envisions Tri-City Medical Center being among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide by continuing to offer the highest quality of care through partnerships with the healthcare community and investing in the latest innovations.
Of the 300 listed, 21 executives are from California, four of them from San Diego County. Also on the list, in addition to Mr. Anderson, are Chris Van Gorder, President and Chief Executives Officer of Scripps Health; Richard K. Rothberger, Corporate Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Scripps Health; and Paul S. Viviano, Chief Executive Officer of the University of California Health System.
