$300,000 in Community Grants Awarded by Tri-City Healthcare District

Casa de Amparo, Angel’s Depot and the Boys & Girls Clubs in Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista are among 23 North County nonprofits that were awarded grants totaling $300,000 by the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors at their meeting on June 28.

Among the projects to be funded by the grants:

  • $7,500 to North County Health Services to assure access to care for low-income, uninsured children with asthma
  • $10,000 to YMCA Oz North Coast to offer counseling to homeless youth
  • $15,000 to North County Community Services to help maintain winter shelters
  • $10,000 to Meals With Love Vista /Oceanside to provide healthy meals to senior citizens and disabled and handicapped residents in their homes

The projects that were funded address three of the region’s most critical health needs – access to care, mental health, and conditions related to lifestyle, including diabetes, childhood obesity, and nutrition. Proposals were solicited from nonprofits serving the residents of Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista.

“We received many extraordinary proposals,” said committee chair Charlene Anderson of the TCHD Board of Directors, “and we are pleased and proud to know that so much good will be done as a result of these grants.”

Each year, funds are allocated by the district’s Board of Directors to be used in a competitive grant process for nonprofits. Grant applications are evaluated by a volunteer committee of district residents.
