The early discovery and treatment of breast cancer in a caring and compassionate environment is the commitment made by the Edgar and Jo Anne Jones Women's Diagnostic Center to the women of North County. The Women's Diagnostic Center contains complete Mammography services and facilities.
Annual Mammograms Start at Age 40
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women. Many authorities recommend that women have mammograms regularly starting at age 40. Studies show that annual mammograms can reduce breast cancer deaths by 25 to 35 percent in women aged 50 and over who have no symptoms.
About Mammography
This test, using low-level x-rays to find abnormal areas in the breast, is one of the best ways to detect breast cancer early.
Self-Examination
In addition to having regular mammograms, it is important for women to perform routine breast self-examination to detect lumps at an early stage.
A Tri-City Medical Center Foundation Project
The Mammography Center owes its existence to the hard work and generosity of the Tri-City Medical Center Foundation and a few key donors. For updated information on this and other foundation projects, see the Tri-City Hospital Foundation Web site.
