2010 is the official International Year of the Nurse, a global initiative for a healthier world, celebrating the life and work of Florence Nightingale.
Year of the Nurse (YOTN) is a worldwide, grassroots effort that invites nurses across the globe to become actively involved in philanthropic activities that make use of their knowledge, skills, interest, and enthusiasm. With the full support of the Foundation, Tri-City Medical Center nurses will be active participants in this exciting event.
YOTN is about nurses dedicating themselves to activities outside the workplace that help create a healthier community. YOTN is about countless nurses around the world uniting so they are an irresistible force of many, implementing solutions of their own making, in many ways and in many places.
The nurses of Tri-City are planning a year of special events and are committed to improving the health and well-being of our beloved North San Diego County community.

Year of the Nurse Planned Projects
Solutions for Change
A local non-profit organization that offers programs and transitional housing to help solve family homelessness. They have many needs for volunteers including: health education presentations, health screenings, preparing family dinners, hosting an activity for the children, clothing drives etc. We think this organization is a great opportunity for our nurses to get involved and really make a difference for these families. For more information visit Solutions for Change.
Backpacks
Take home a backpack and fill it with much needed school supplies for underprivileged children within our community.
Shoes
Purchase a new pair of shoes for a child of any age. The shoes will be donated to local non-profits.
Health Assessments

Nightingales
Volunteer to go that extra mile in helping make patients feel more comfortable. Read books or magazines to patients, comb or wash hair or just provide comforting support that the scheduled nurses may not have the extra time for.
Community Corner
Volunteer to speak at the Community Corner at Plaza Camino Real Mall giving health information and screenings
Mentor Program
Through the Center for Nursing Diversity volunteer to be a mentor for high school and middle school students and give community presentations to parents, so that that the Latino (and other) communities in North County recognize the opportunities in nursing and allied health for their kids.
