Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Assist hospital staff with basic clerical and operational support
- Make charts
- Work on monthly newsletter
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by staff
Clerical (Auxiliary Office)
Handle routine office work (filing, data entry, mailings)
- Answer telephone and direct caller to appropriate resource
- Operate various office equipment (fax, computer, copy machine etc.)
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and e-mail is required
Courtesy Shuttle
Patient Pick Up Service
- Communicate with Security Team via 2-way radio
- Drive Shuttle around hospital parking lot to assist people who need or want a ride
Customer Relations
- Assist surgical patients with check-in
- Answer non-medical questions
- Escort patient and family to the Pre-op Hold area.
- Answer telephone, take messages and keep track of where family is located during patient's surgery.
Emergency Department
- Act as liaison between visitors, patients and the medical staff
- Assist in registration
- Provide non-medical assistance as requested by medical staff (changing gurneys, stocking supplies, making coffee, assembling medical and surgical packets)
- Escort patients to their rooms
- Run errands
Employee Health
- Fill out and file receipts
- Log over the counter medications
- Open and check new merchandise, stock supply cabinets
Escort Service
- Escort patients to proper departments
- Deliver documents throughout the hospital
- Maintain a neat waiting area
- Interact with patients while they are waiting and when escorting them to designated areas.
Gift Shop
- Use cash register and process credit cards

- Maintain and replenish stock on shelves
- Have knowledge of basic customer service skills and sales skills
- Assist visitors, patients and employees with their purchases
Greeters
- Greet patients, visitors and family members
- Assist visitors and family members with general hospital information and locations.
Imaging
- Act as liaison between staff, families and patients
- Greet patients as they arrive for procedures
- Escort patients to dressing room and see to their comfort while waiting or recovering.
- Assist with paperwork for radiology staff
Intensive Care
- Assist, screen and comfort visitors
- Maintain record of patient's arrivals and departures
- Escort visitors to patient rooms
Laboratory
- Assist nursing units with pick-up and delivery service
- Make rounds as requested
- Dispense specimens from lab triage tubs
- Assist with paperwork for lab front office and triage unit
Maternal Child Care
- Hand out juice or food trays
- Fill water pitchers, strip or make beds
- Watch/rock newborns in the NICU
- Run errands
- Prepare home packets for discharged patients
- Provide wheelchair assistance for mothers and babies
Pharmacy
- Deliver medications and medical supplies to tall departments
- Take returned medications back to pharmacy
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Assemble new patient orientation packets, Asthma and COPD education packets and new patient class notebooks
- Assist on-duty nurse as requested
Reception
- Answer questions and provide assistance to patients, family members and visitors (badges, directions, etc.)
- Relay hospital information to the public
- Receive and deliver patient mail, floral arrangements and gifts
- Track patient room numbers
Registration
Serve as liaison with the Admitting Office
- Assist incoming patients with completion of forms
- Monitor patients for signs of undue comfort or acute illness
Surgery
- Escort patients and families
- Store personal effects, stock warmer blankets, pick up and deliver paperwork
- Serve food and drinks
- Discharge patients in wheelchairs
Telecare
Make daily support calls to those who live alone and / or are convalescing
Workshop
- Make puppets for children admitted to the hospital
- Make tray favors for holidays
- Make corsages for prospective mothers attending maternity teas
- Make stuffed toys for Emergency Department
- Make booties, caps, blankets and sweaters for newborn babies

Off Campus Locations
Tri-City Wellness Center (Carlsbad)
- Greet patients, visitors, family members
- Provide directions and occasionally escort patients to their appointment locations.
- Clerical duties (typing, collating, mailings, chart preparation, etc.)
- Assist in cardiac and physical therapy as needed
Tri-City Medical Office Building (Carlsbad)
- Provide directions and occasionally escort patients to their appointment locations.
- Clerical duties (typing, collating, mailings, chart preparation, etc.)
Bilingual volunteers are always a plus in any department.
