Tri-City Employees Step Up for March of Dimes

Employees will walk April 10 in Encinitas
Tri-City Medical Center is always looking for ways to help “Advance the health and wellness of those we serve”, and newborn babies are no exception! Over the next few months Tri-City Medical Center and Larry B. Anderson has pledged to donate a minimum amount of $35,000 towards the March of Dimes, an organization that strives to help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

Tri-City Medical Center CEO Larry B. Anderson is serving as the 2010 North County Walk Chairman and has a deep vested interest in this organization since he survived polio as a child; a disease, that thanks to research funded by the March of Dimes, has been nearly eradicated.

Volunteers from every hospital department are lacing up their shoes and will hit the pavement on April 10th in Encinitas to participate in this year’s 3-Mile “March for Babies”. We have already formed various departmental teams and have begun our fundraising efforts.

“The March of Dimes organization is wonderful to partner with and they really step forward to assist in the prevention of premature births,” commented Lisa Mattia, shift supervisor of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a hospital department that was pioneered by the March of Dimes over 25 years ago.

In addition to the tremendous amount of research that the March of Dimes funds, their advocacy has resulted in most states now screening babies for 21 or more serious but treatable conditions. Additionally, the organization helps to fund education to assist pregnant women prevent premature births and to have healthy pregnancies.

Once again, in our efforts to continually advance the health and wellness of those it serves, Tri-City Medical Center will be taking many steps forward to support another valuable organization.
