Tri-City Medical Center Pledges $35,000 Donation to March of Dimes
Tri-City Medical Center has teamed up with the San Diego-Imperial Division March of Dimes for the annual March for Babies Walk, taking place April 10th in Encinitas.
Tri-City Medical Center has pledged to donate a minimum of $35,000 to support research and community programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies to begin healthy lives.
Tri-City Medical Center’s CEO, Larry Anderson, is serving as this year’s North County Walk Chairman and has a deep vested interest in this organization since he survived Polio as a child; a disease, that thanks to research funded by the March of Dimes, has been nearly eradicated.
“March of Dimes is an organization close to my heart and I’m ecstatic that the staff at Tri-City has embraced this effort,” said Larry Anderson. “They are putting their hearts into this endeavor, just like they do for our patients every day, and the results are going to be tremendous for all involved.”
With more than 200 employees registered to participate in the March for Babies, more than 27 various teams from Tri-City Medical Center have been formed and are working hard to raise funds for the walk. From restaurant nights and bake sales to custom sweatshirts and quilts, the employees are dedicated to their fundraising efforts and will continue to push forward until the goal is met.
Larry Anderson joins a distinguished roster of business leaders who are spearheading the event in communities across the nation. Alan Mulally, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company and Ron Gettelfinger, President of United Auto Workers, have joined forces as national co-chairs, with a goal of raising $100 million nationwide to improve the health of babies.
The most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today is premature birth. It affects more than half a million babies each year, with the number growing every day. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected.
