We are honored to have internal medicine specialist John Clancy, DO as part of the Tri-City community. We sat down with Dr. Clancy and asked a few questions to see why he became a doctor and what the community means to him.

Q. What inspired you to become a physician?

Unfortunately, a family member had an unexpected serious medical issue when I was 14 years old. It was a tough time for the family but what inspired me was seeing how the medical field was able to care for the sick in their time of need – from that time on I knew I was going to become a physician.

Q. What’s your favorite part about living in our community?

When you think of San Diego you think of the great weather and spending time outdoors! My wife and I love raising our family in a place like San Diego, specifically North County, which promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Q. What is the focus of your practice? Do you specialize in a certain aspect or take a special interest in a service line?

I focus on treating patients affected by diabetes and other chronic diseases. Working with patients on their discipline, diet, and exercise are vital to their well-being – disease can be controlled to live a happy and productive life!

Q. Why did you choose to be affiliated with a community hospital like Tri-City Medical Center?

Tri-City is recognized as a top hospital and provides great support which is important for community growth and wellness.

Q. What would you say to encourage patients across our community to do to improve their health?

Exercise, exercise, exercise! It is vital everyone should exercise 120 minutes a week at a target heart rate for good health.

Q. What would people be surprised to know about you? Hidden hobby/talent?

I trained for and competed in a marathon in 1999. I set high goals for myself and never give up on any goal I set for myself.
