Tri-City Medical Center is proud to have Solutions for Change as a partner through our COASTAL (Community Outreach And Support Through Active Leadership) Commitment. Solutions for Change is fighting the cycle of homelessness and poverty through personal development and an accountability-based approach tailored to residents’ needs.
About Solutions for Change
Solutions for Change started in 1999 as a response to the needs of families struggling with homelessness and as an effort to address the root causes of homelessness. Their 1,000-day Solutions University program was created to address gaps in the homelessness prevention system, equipping students with education, counseling, professional development and empowerment to ensure students can access proper resources for their unique situations.
Over the past year, Solutions for Change program refined their 1,000 day university to a 700-day Solutions Academy that begins with a “Healing and Retreat” phase to better serve their residents. This is an intentional vocational school focused on student residents starting classes to help educate and guide them to independence. Academy students — previously homeless parents — progress through a 700-day comprehensive program that equips each individual with the necessary education and skills to live sustainable and healthy lives. Each student is provided a dedicated coach who will create a customized plan that addresses personal, employment, family and housing needs.
COASTAL Partnership
Tri-City Medical Center is committed to addressing the unmet health needs of homelessness individuals in our community. To support their mission, Tri-City Medical Center provides funding for critical mental health screenings and intense case management occurring in the first six weeks of treatment. This service plays a vital role in the individualized care students receive when entering the program.
During our partnership in the year 2020, Solutions for Change transformed the lives of 260 families comprised of 682 children and 294 adults. Tania Azar, the VP of Strategic Advancement, expressed her gratitude by stating, “Solutions for Change is very grateful for TCMC’s support of our transformational academy that provides the critical therapeutic services needed to address root causes and mental health needs. Over 80% of our students struggle with addiction and personal trauma. Through clinical assessments, we create a treatment plan and will provide the additional counseling needs each parent may possess. Without the support of organizations like TCMC, Solutions would not be able to provide as comprehensive and life-saving services.”
