Dr. Liu is a behavioral neurologist and a molecular neuroimaging (PET and SPECT) expert, board-certified in both neurology and nuclear medicine. He is a native Southern Californian, and has enjoyed living in New York, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis during medical school and residency. He returned to Southern California in 2010 to raise a family and to serve fellow Californians.

Dr. Liu graduated from UC Berkeley with bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Philosophy. After medical school in New York (NYMC), he had dual residency training in Neurology at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Nuclear Medicine at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology/Washington University in St. Louis. After residency, he completed a behavioral neurology/neuroimaging fellowship at UCLA/VA.

Dr. Liu held faculty position as Assistant Professor of Neurology and Radiology at USC, where he taught medical students and residents, and developed novel imaging methods to help understand the connection between brain vessel health and memory loss. He was also Co-Director of the Memory Assessment Center at Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert, where he pioneered cognitive assessment by telemedicine. He published numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and supported multiple clinical trials during this time.

Dr. Liu joined the Neurology Center of Southern California to serve the greater San Diego area. His practice focuses on cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and normal pressure hydrocephalus. His expertise in PET and SPECT neuroimaging helps provide accurate diagnosis for potential participation in clinical trials. He is also experienced in treating headache and stroke, with special interest in managing the behavioral aspects of these disorders. He is developing a blog as a resource for his patients.

When not working, Dr. Liu enjoys spending time with his family on the many beautiful beaches along the San Diego coast.

Dr. Liu is also fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese.
