Mammograms & Biopsies

Tri-City Medical Center offers high-tech mammography screenings, MRI, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsies – safe, simple exams that take a picture of a woman’s breast tissue. Mammograms are used as a diagnostic tool to evaluate any irregularities found. These screenings are done in a private and comfortable environment at our Women’s Diagnostic Center and help us achieve the best diagnosis for you.

The American Cancer Society recommends women begin the mammogram screening process no later than the age of 40. Talk with your healthcare provider today and ask when you should start your screenings and how often you should receive a mammogram. During your conversation with your doctor, report any changes in the shape or feel of your breasts or if you are having and problems.

The Edgar and Jo Anne Jones Women’s Diagnostic Center

A place of serenity

From the moment you walk through the special entrance you know this is not your typical hospital exam center. The colors, the shape and the flow of the rooms are all designed to make women feel peaceful, serene and comfortable.

Every detail, from the first hello, what the staff wears, the all-in-one changing and exam rooms, to how and when patients are told their results, is geared to make the experience as relaxing as possible.

What To Expect

Your peace of mind matters to us

We will keep you informed through each step of your visit to the Women’s Diagnostic Center. By the time you leave, you will either know that you are fine or what the next steps are. No one is left to wait and worry.

If you are at the center for something other than a routine mammogram a radiologist will discuss the results before you leave. Follow-up procedures are scheduled within a few days, not weeks.

Preparation and Procedure

When you have your mammogram scheduled, whether it is your first or you have gone through the procedure in the past, we recommend the following:

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing
  • Avoid any deodorant, skincare cream or jewelry as it may interfere with the screening process
  • Bring previous mammogram results if possible

The mammography process is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Our technologists will be with you throughout the procedure and will answer any questions you may have.

Once the exam is complete, our radiologists will review your mammogram and will provide either you or your primary care physician with your results once completed.
