This course will teach you the basic life support methods and techniques used by healthcare professionals.

HeartCode BLS is for healthcare professionals seeking an alternative method for completing a BLS Provider Course. AHA blended learning courses combine the flexibility of online training with in person skills practice and testing.
Students complete the HeartCode BLS training via the American Heart Association website. This course teaches students BLS knowledge and skills using a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities.
After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. Tri-City Medical Center considers the skills portion a challenging course for those whom are proficient in CPR.
Steps to Obtain Your BLS Card:
Online Learning Portion (approximately 2 hours)
- Purchase and complete the “HeartCode BLS” online course through the American Heart Association website at www.onlineaha.org. AHA charges $28.50 for the HeartCode BLS online course.
- Print the completion certificate.
Skills Assessment (approximately 1 hour)
- Sign up for a specific date and time to complete your skills assessment.
- You must bring the completion certificate and picture identification to your skills assessment, or you will not be allowed to complete the skills testing.
- If you have any problems printing your certificate, please contact the Education Department prior to your testing date.
- You will be practicing skills that require working on the floor and having hands-on contact with the manikins and fellow students. If you have any physical conditions that might prevent these activities, please notify the Education Department at 760.940.3100.

The one-day American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support UPDATE COURSE is intended for participants who work in a healthcare setting and have a current AHA “ACLS Provider” card. You must bring your current ACLS card and current BLS card with you to class. You are required to go the AHA student website and complete the ACLS pre-test, and bring your certificate with you to class.
If you are not an employee of Tri-City Medical Center, you must bring a picture ID.
The ACLS Update course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to perform in both a team leader and a team member role in an unexpected emergency. The current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support student manual is mandatory for the class. You may purchase the manual for $40, in advance of the class, from the Education Department.
Upon completing the course, students will receive an electronic AHA ACLS Course Completion Card, valid for two years. This course will not provide you with a new BLS card. To renew your BLS card during ACLS, go to www.onlineaha.org and complete the HeartCode BLS Online Course Part 1 for $28.50. Register for the hands on skills test, Part 2, during ACLS. The cost for the Part 2 skills test is $30.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course
This course is not appropriate for people who work in the healthcare field. Healthcare providers need to take the BLS Provider Course. If you are a healthcare professional and/or a Tri-City Medical Center employee, please refer to the BLS or ACLS class schedules.
The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course is a 7 hour course designed for the rescuer who is required to obtain a course completion card. Participants might include, but are not limited to: teachers, childcare providers, lifeguards, coaches, personal trainers, and security guards.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard, valid for two years.
Course skills/topics include:
- Adult/Child 1 rescuer CPR with mask
- Infant 1 rescuer CPR
- Adult, child, and infant choking
- First Aid Basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies

What to Bring
To attend this course, you must have the current AHA Provider Manual, 2015 ECC Guidelines, before, during, and after the class. If you have the current manual, you do not need to purchase the manual but you must bring the manual to class.
Special Instructions
- Students must be at least 14 years of age to participate in this class.
- Please wear comfortable clothes to class, as you may be on your knees performing the skills.
- Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified by phone two days before the class and will have the opportunity to attend another date or receive a full refund of the registration fee.
- Arrival: Participants, who arrive more than ten minutes after the class start time, will not be able to attend. Your course fee will not be refunded and you will be required to pay for the class again.

The ACLS Update course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to perform in both a team leader and a team member role in an unexpected emergency. The current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support student manual is mandatory for the class. You may purchase the manual for $40, in advance of the class, from the Education Department.
Upon completing the course, students will receive an electronic AHA ACLS Course Completion Card, valid for two years. This course will not provide you with a new BLS card. To renew your BLS card during ACLS, go to www.onlineaha.org and complete the HeartCode BLS Online Course Part 1 for $28.50. Register for the hands on skills test, Part 2, during ACLS. The cost for the Part 2 skills test is $30.

This course is not appropriate for people who work in the healthcare field. Healthcare providers need to take the BLS Provider Course. If you are a healthcare professional and/or a Tri-City Medical Center employee, please refer to the BLS or ACLS class schedules.
The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course is a 7 hour course designed for the rescuer who is required to obtain a course completion card. Participants might include, but are not limited to: teachers, childcare providers, lifeguards, coaches, personal trainers, and security guards.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard, valid for two years.

What to Bring

- Please wear comfortable clothes to class, as you may be on your knees performing the skills.
- Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified by phone two days before the class and will have the opportunity to attend another date or receive a full refund of the registration fee.
