Patient Safety, Quality Care Remain Paramount

During Unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic

Patient Safety, Quality Care Remain Paramount

 April 27, 2020

Tri-City Healthcare District (Tri-City) has been faithfully serving the communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista and our surrounding cities for nearly 60 years. Our mission is to advance the health and wellness of the community we serve.

The COVID-19 worldwide pandemic has resulted in unprecedented federal, state and local health emergency declarations. In preparation for a potential surge in COVID-19 patients, restrictions have been mandated to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. While appropriately preparing for a surge in COVID-19 patients, these restrictions along with “stay at home” orders have resulted in a significant decrease in surgical, inpatient and outpatient volumes.

Healthcare systems across the nation are faced with unprecedented conditions to appropriately prepare for and treat COVID-19 patients, while simultaneously facing liquidity pressures due to decreased patient volumes. We must continually adjust staffing to match patient volumes while maintaining flexibility to prepare for a surge to meet the healthcare needs of our community.

Due to decreased volumes being encountered currently, Tri-City took the difficult but necessary action to temporarily furlough 48 team members. This represents approximately 2% of Tri- City’s workforce. We are continuing to maintain benefits for the impacted employees during the furlough period and expect to bring valued team members back to work as soon as business conditions permit.

Safe patient care remains our utmost priority. Safe, quality patient care will not be impacted as furloughs are in areas experiencing current volume decreases.

Tri-City remains committed to our mission to advance the health and wellness of the community we serve during these challenging and unprecedented times and thanks all of our committed community partners and valued team members for their unwavering support during this worldwide pandemic.
