Tri-City Medical Center hosts numerous classes and groups that help you, as a new parent, prepare for childbirth and provide you with the support you need for when you bring home your baby.

We offer everything from planning for pregnancy and delivery to post-delivery and childhood growth. We also offer ongoing support programs including a breastfeeding support group that meets on a regular basis.

Pregnancy & Childbirth Classes

Baby Safe Class

This is an informative class for parents and grandparents on safety practices and procedures, which includes infant CPR. Discussion will cover quick care for emergencies, caring for a sick child and more.

Baby Care Class

Bringing your baby home for the first time is such a special occasion. We want to help keep the time you will spend caring for your baby at home enjoyable and simple by offering this instructional class to parents and grandparents. Many important baby care topics will be covered, including:

  • Newborn bathing
  • Cord care
  • Diapering
  • Sleeping & eating patterns
  • When to call the pediatrician
  • Taking baby out

Childbirth Preparation Class | 1-Day or 3-Week Course

Prepare yourself and your partner for the birth of your baby. This class will cover information about hospital procedures including c-sections, active relaxation exercises, breathing techniques, pain relief options and postpartum care. There will be open discussion between you, your partner and the instructor to help ease any concerns or worries and to answer any questions.

Understanding Childbirth (Online Only)

This online course is designed to prepare parents for the birth of their newborn. You will learn all about the birth process and medical procedures through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You will also get a sense of what labor’s really like as you watch several complete birth stories, and you will even have an opportunity to create your own birth plan!

Please note: this is an online-only class but it includes a 1x follow-up physical class at the end of your on-line class to go over active relaxation, breathing techniques and answering questions about our facility. Maternity Orientation

Find out about having your baby at Tri-City Medical Center at our Maternity Orientation. Expectant moms and their guests are invited to attend. Learn more about the care you will receive during and after childbirth. No charge for this event.

The breastfeeding support group has valuable information to offer you and is open to all members of our community at no charge. Be sure to bring your questions and concerns, as we are here to help you and your baby be healthy, happy and informed.

Breastfeeding Your Baby

You will appreciate all the information the breastfeeding class has to offer you. A certified lactation consultant will introduce techniques for success and will provide strategies and ideas on avoiding preventable pitfalls. Many topics will be covered, including:

  • Latching and position
  • Feeding patterns
  • Adequate milk supply
  • Coping with returning to work
