COASTAL Partnership: The Brother Benno Foundation

Tri-City Medical Center partners with nearly 60 local organizations to meet the health needs of North County. Through our COASTAL Commitment partnership with the Brother Benno Foundation, we address the needs of food insecurity and access to care within our community. Tri-City Medical Center has been ongoing partners with the Brother Benno Foundation for years and actively supports their mission to serve and uplift those in need.

About The Brother Benno Foundation

The Brother Benno Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to serving the poor and homeless in San Diego North County since it was created in 1983 as a Soup Kitchen founded by Harold & Kay Kutler. The Brother Benno Foundation focuses on feeding the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless, comforting the sick and supporting the people in recovering from addiction. Their mission is to carry on the ministry of Brother Benno by living out the gospel according to Matthew 25:31 -45 with love and compassion.

COASTAL Partnership

With our long-standing partnership, we have supported the Brother Benno Foundation through various programs and services including their Emergency Hotel Voucher program which addresses the increased need for a motel room to recuperate and provides an opportunity to assist guests in obtaining long term housing.

Currently, through our COASTAL Commitment, we are actively supporting the funding of their transportation services program they offer to people who are in need of shelter. On any given day, women with children or unaccompanied minors (homeless teens) will come in for services. Oftentimes, they are seeking shelter. The North County region has limited bed space for the mass homeless populations living in the area, let alone these two special sub-populations. Securing a bed at a one of the Brother Benno’s downtown partner agencies such as Father Joes, Catholic Charities or the Rescue Mission is typically easier because of the availability of open bed space. Oftentimes though, the staff do not have the time or resources to transport clients from Oceanside to Downtown San Diego. Through the funding of their transportation services program, Tri-City Medical Center is assisting the needs of the homeless and giving them access to a larger network of resources.

Get Involved

Through our COASTAL Commitment partnership, Tri-City Medical Center supports the mission of the Brother Benno Foundation and seeks to reduce the barriers to care for the homeless population. Volunteers are the heart and soul of Brother Benno’s. Any level of involvement, temporary or ongoing is appreciated.
