Caring for North County

Asian Joining Hands Volunteers, February 2020

Tri-City Medical Center is proud to honor The Friends of La Posada as this month’s COASTAL Commitment partner.

The Friends of La Posada is a volunteer group supporting the work of La Posada, a shelter for homeless men and farm workers in North County. Through our longstanding partnership, we aim to help those in need and restore the future of homeless men in our community.

Over the years, La Posada has grown substantially to become a significant resource for the homeless men in our community. Their operations grew from organizing donations of bedding, clothing and food for the male farm workers, to the development of a beautiful building that has 2 dorms housing 50 men each. Approximately 500 men are supported each year. La Posada provides many services to help their residents meet their goals during an average stay of 60-days. Some of the services provided include help with the Social Security and the Veterans Administration, Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, medical screenings and other healthcare resources.

Tri-City Medical Center has been a consistent supporter of La Posada’s mission to provide a safe, supportive, sober environment and opportunities for men with few or no resources to gather, begin, and continue self-help efforts.

COASTAL Commitment Initiative

Community Member Volunteers, November 2018

As a part of our COASTAL Commitment, Tri-City is focused on recognizing the needs of North County and making an impact on social determinants of health to better our community. The Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties (HASDIC) Community Health Needs Assessment has identified homelessness and housing as one of the top 10 needs in our county. Tri-City is proud to collaborate with the Friends of La Posada to reduce the impact of homelessness, help the homeless and strengthen our community as a whole.

Through our partnership, Tri-City Medical Center has sponsored and raised awareness for La Posada which has allowed them to provide 100 Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day meals, 100 Christmas Day Gift bags every year, new mattresses and much more. During this pandemic, our sponsorship has gone towards hundreds of masks, hand sanitizer stations and extra cleaning supplies to keep their residents safe and healthy.

Patricia Dalsin, Treasurer of The Friends of La Posada shared, “We and the homeless men in our community benefit greatly by our partnership.”

Men seeking shelter and resources must call for an interview and be over 18 years of age, drug free, alcohol free, and possess necessary residency documents. For more information on La Posada visit ccdsd.org/homeless-mens-services/ or call 760.929.2322.
