American Cancer Society

Oceanside Relay for Life, 2007

Tri-City Medical Center is honored to highlight the American Cancer Society as our COASTAL Commitment partner of the month! Our partnership allows us to aid in their mission to raise awareness and funds towards cancer research and provide programs and services to those directly and indirectly impacted by cancer. Our 10-year-long partnership has generated over $50,000 in donations towards the fight against cancer.

About American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913 in New York City by a small group of doctors who sought to change the prognosis of their cancer patients and improve their quality of life. For over 100 years, they have been instrumental in cancer research, leading to many breakthroughs including their famous cancer signals campaign, chemotherapy and the link between smoking and cancer.  Through their national and global efforts of research, awareness and support, they have contributed to the work that has resulted in a 29% drop in the overall cancer death rate in the United States from 1991 to 2017.

Partnership Overview

Partnering with the American Cancer Society has allowed Tri-City Medical Center to provide various resources to our cancer patients and their families including personal health managers, free wigs, transportation to and from treatment sessions at no cost, nutrition resources and social services. Additionally, American Cancer Society has provided Tri-City Medical Center with additional materials such as Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) kits, mastectomy bras and prosthetics for the medically underserved population. All of these additional resources aim to aid in the transition to cancer treatment while ensuring the needs and comfort of the patient are addressed.

Reach to Recovery

Currently Tri-City Medical Center supports their Reach to Recovery program which offers peer-to-peer support from breast cancer survivors who offer resources, understanding and hope to people facing breast cancer. Together, the American Cancer Society and Tri-City Medical Center work to provide the best care to cancer patients and their loved ones while simultaneously spreading awareness to the community through fundraising events.
