Tri-City Medical Center to Celebrate San Diego’s Newest Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory

Oceanside, CA – On October 21, Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC) will celebrate the grand opening of the newest addition to the Oceanside medical center, a fully integrated, digital Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab), used to prevent and treat potentially fatal cardiac conditions, like heart attacks.

The new Cath Lab will allow for improved imaging, faster physician access to records, availability of records from multiple locations and enhanced diagnostic capabilities through new technology, such as Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS). IVUS allows the cardiologist to see inside blood vessels to determine the amount of plaque build-up in the coronary artery. As a San Diego County Designated STEMI (Heart Attack) Receiving Center, Tri-City Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Catheterization Lab and treatment team are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“This new technology will further the scope of treatment options available to our patients and enhance our STEMI (heart attack) Receiving Center,” said David Spiegel, MD, Medical Director of TCMC’s Cardiac Catheterization Labs.

As a comprehensive provider of cardiac care, Tri-City Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Services include interventional and diagnostic cardiology, cardio thoracic surgery, a nationally accredited cardiac rehabilitation program, stress testing/echocardiography, electrophysiology/arrhythmia testing and treatment, cardiac CT angiography and nuclear cardiology. TCMC’s cardiovascular program is dedicated to research, education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

“It is truly our privilege to offer our community the highest level of cardiac services coupled with the latest technology and clinical care, right here in North County,” said Donald Dawkins, Cardiovascular Service Line Administrator at TCMC.
