In the United States, San Diego is about as close to heaven as you can get. The year round climate is perfect if you enjoy sunny days and temperatures that reach about 75-degrees for the high and 48-degrees for the low. That creates the ideal weather for spending most of your free time outside, so it’s safe to say San Diego is a place where people enjoy the great outdoors.
Skies as blue as robin’s eggs with rainfall of approximately 10 inches per year compared with 37 for the rest of the United States. With all this sunshine you must get outdoors for some exercise. In San Diego there are all sorts of heart healthy activities in which to participate:
- in-line skating
Beaches are the perfect backdrop for many of these activities.
Take advantage of the impressive mountains for hiking especially Torrey Pines, one of San Diego’s hidden beauties. Hiking up the snaking mountain trails you’ll get heart healthy and see gorgeous flowers and maybe an animal or two. Meditate surrounded by the grandeur of nature on the cliffs and enjoy magnificent sunsets that streak the skies like an impressionist painting right before your eyes.
La Jolla is the site of a 75-million-year-old sandstone sea cliff and most of its caves are accessible only by kayak. Once you reach the caves you can anchor your kayak and don some snorkeling gear to get up close and personal with a variety of sea life.
There are so many attractions that will get you and your family outside to enjoy the perfect weather and improve your health:
- riding The Giant Dipper, a famous roller coaster
- visiting the world famous San Diego Zoo
- the zoo’s Safari Park
- Legoland San Diego
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, check out activities like:
- Jet Skis
- Sky diving (that’ll get your heart rate up!)
- Climbing Walls
You’ll have a screaming good time. The best thing about San Diego is that you’ll have so much fun outdoors in the sunshine that heart healthy activities don’t even seem like “work” or “exercise”. Just get out there and enjoy life!
