Foundation Corporate Council Approves $50,000 Donation To Obstetrics Department At Tri-City Medical Center

Obstetrics Department to purchase fetal monitor and biliblankets with new funding

OCEANSIDE, June 1 – The Tri-City Hospital Foundation’s Corporate Council voted unanimously on Monday morning to approve a $50,000 donation to Tri-City Medical Center’s Obstetrics Department for the purchase of new equipment.

A fetal monitor will be purchased with the new funding, costing $30,000. The monitor allows physicians to monitor a fetus’ heartbeat while it is still in the uterus through noninvasive external electrodes. This allows them to check a fetus’ heart rate pattern and track how it tolerates contractions during labor. In addition, four biliblankets will be purchased with the remainder of the funding provided. Biliblankets are used to treat jaundice in newborns, which is caused by an excess amount of bilirubin in the blood, by using light to change bilirubin into products that can be passed through their system.

“As established leaders in our professions, we are committed to giving back to such a vital community resource in North County,” said Joe Mason, Chair of the Corporate Council for the Tri-City Hospital Foundation and Vice President of Strategic Accounts for Cardinal Health, Inc. “This investment into the health of our newest community members is a reflection of that commitment.”

The funds that make these new equipment purchases possible come from the generous donations and dues of the companies represented on the Corporate Council. In the past five years, this group of business leaders has funded over $500,000 for the Tri-City Hospital Foundation.
