Tri-City Scores High Marks for Heart Care

Tri-City Medical Center has been recognized as the 6th best hospital in the nation for having one of the lowest readmission rates for heart attack patients.

The ranking of the top 50 hospitals nationwide was compiled by Becker’s Hospital Review, a healthcare industry publication, and is based on data collected from July 2007 to June 2010 by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service.

The list recognizes those hospitals that have been able to reduce the readmission of heart attack patients within 30 days because of the high level of care provided during and after their admission.

“The recognition by Becker’s is a landmark achievement for Tri City Medical Center and is a testament to the hard work and diligence of our employees, physicians, and a majority of the Board of Directors,” said Chief Executive Officer Larry Anderson. “Working together, we have transformed a small community hospital into a regional healthcare leader that is cutting new ground, not only in our building plans and financial performance, but in our quality of patient care and leadership in the development of new surgical technologies.”

Tri-City was one of only two San Diego County hospitals on the list. Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla was ranked 40th.
