We are honored to have family medicine specialist Michael Pietila, MD as part of the Tri-City community practicing out of Tri-City Primary Care in Vista, California. We sat down with Dr. Pietila and asked a few questions to see why he became a doctor and what the community means to him.

Q. What inspired you to become a physician?

My uncle was a doctor which inspired me to become one as well. I also enjoyed science classes in school and had an affinity for working with people to help them.

Q. What’s your favorite part about living in our community?

I grew up in southern California and enjoy all of the activities that go along with the area – the beach, nice weather, and numerous outdoor activities.

Q. What is the focus of your practice? Do you specialize in a certain aspect or take a special interest in a service line?

My main focus is on geriatric health because I enjoy working with the elderly and have worked in the office and nursing home settings for many years.

Q. Why did you choose to be affiliated with a community hospital like Tri-City Medical Center?

Having worked in the community area for 20 years, I have referred many of my patients to Tri-City Medical Center for services. I believe it is a strong hospital with a great team of doctors and staff and I am excited to be part of the organization.

Q. What would you say to encourage patients across our community to do to improve their health?

Eat right, stay active, and try to avoid having to take a lot of medicine through healthy lifestyle choices.

Q. What would people be surprised to know about you? Hidden hobby/talent?

I am married and have 3 kids and like to be active–surfing, running, golf, basketball, and biking are some of the activities I enjoy!
